Job Aid

Safety Poster

This job aid/poster is a concept project used to remind workers of the important safety rules that should be followed when using a table saw. Audience: Table Saw Users at ABC Millwork and Lumber My Responsibilities: Instructional Design, Moodboard, and Graphic Design Tools I Used: Canva, Figma, and Google Docs

The Problem and Solution

ABC Millwork and Lumber received safety violations in their two most recent safety checks. Because this was their 2nd violation, they were at risk of being shut down for a period of one month. After I conducted a needs assessment, I determined that the workers within the company had the knowledge and skills that were needed to operate the machinery safely. However, they were forgetting to follow these safety rules for a number of different reasons, so I suggested job aids that could be displayed by the machinery. This write up will focus on the job aid created for the table saw.

My Process

This project was time-sensitive, with the company requiring this job aid and those for the other machinery before the upcoming safety check in 10 days. After discussing the project details with the client, I quickly developed a moodboard and prototype, which was then sent for their review. Upon receiving approval, I finalized the job aid. All materials were completed before the scheduled safety check.
Moodboard
The moodboard ensures alignment between the client and myself on the project's overall direction, including image style, color palette, and font selection. While I provide recommendations as needed, the final decisions rest with the client.
Prototype
After finalizing the moodboard, I proceeded to create a quick prototype of the job aid, incorporating the agreed-upon images, fonts, and colors into a mockup that reflects the potential final design. Following a review of the prototype and any feedback or adjustments from the client, I moved forward with developing the final version of the project.
Full Development
Based on the feedback from the prototype, I created the final version of the job aid in Canva and submitted it to the client for final approval.
